Rumor has it that Mar Roxas is being eyed for a Cabinet post
MAR ROXAS – The former senator is rumored that he’s being eyed for a Cabinet position under the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Manuel “Mar” Araneta Roxas II is the grandson and namesake of former President Manuel Roxas and the son of former Senator Gerry Roxas.
Before his hiatus in the world of politics, he served as senator and Cabinet secretary.
He was the former secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government from 2012 to 2015.
He also served as the secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry from 2000 to 2003 and as Secretary of Transportation and Communications from 2011 to 2012.
After more than 30 years in the government, Mar Roxas disappeared from politics.
He lied-low from politics after being defeated in the 2016 presidential race, then the 2019 senatorial elections.
But in the past days, rumors have surfaced that he’s being eyed for a Cabinet post under the administration of President Bongbong Marcos.
Mar Roxas is the first cousin of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
It is being hinted as the reason why he might make a comeback in the world of politics as a Cabinet secretary.
According to an article on politics.com.ph, Marcos Jr. stated in an interview while still a senator that he and Roxas “have been friends for a very long time” despite having opposing political views.
The rumors of him getting a government post under PBBM stirred following a Facebook post of former Tourism and DILG Secretary Rafael Alunan
“It seems that Mar Roxas and Paquito Ochoa will be appointed cabinet positions under the guise of unity. Under whose terms? Definitely not the forgotten voters who thrust BBM to power. If this happens, it’s “POP goes the weasel,” he wrote.
