Herlene Budol: “Gusto ko nga pong manampal kapag tinawag akong hipon dati”
HERLENE BUDOL — The Binibining Pilipinas 2022 1st runner-up recently opened up about being called “Hipon Girl“.
Herlene has opened up on what she really feels about being called “Hipon Girl” in an interview on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” (KMJS). According to her, she was hurt at first and wanted to slap those who called her “hipon” at that time.
GMA News Online reported that Herlene joined Binibining Angono ng Sining in 2017, joined a TV game show, and later met her mentor — her now manager Wilbert Tolentino.

Herlene won several special awards and was named 1st runner-up at Binibining Pilipinas 2022 on July 31.
She also gained a new-found appreciation for her moniker “Hipon Girl” as her dreams became a reality. According to her, she’s not going to turn her back on being called “hipon” as the insult against her brought her to a better place.
Herlene also revealed that her walk on Binibining Pilipinas was inspired by her humble beginnings.
Herlene has also finally graduated from college, but her grandmother was no longer around to witness her success.
To recall, her grandmother died while she’s in the middle of preparations for Binibining Pilipinas. She even brought her late grandma’s portrait to grace her graduation ceremony.
“Bigat po. May pinagdadaanan po ako pero wala pong magawa,” Herlene said. “Kailangan ko po nakangiti ka pa habang nagpe-perform ka. Pero hindi po nila alam na ang sakit po na habang naglalakad po ako, wala na pala iyong lola ko.”
When asked how will she deal with fake news and other negative comments criticizing her intelligence, looks, and way of living, she said that she received a lot of criticism when she joined Binibining Pilipinas but she used this as an opportunity to improve herself.
