Why Janette McBride Walked Away from Fame at a Young Age
Janette McBride – The former actress and TV host revealed the reasons why she left the Philippine show business.
Janette recently returned to the Philippines to attend the Manila Improv Festival 2026 held at Rockwell, Makati. Now based in Australia for over a decade, she lives a quieter life with her Filipino husband and their son while working as a theater actress. She first gained recognition in the early 2000s as a co-host of Talk TV alongside Julius Babao and others, and also appeared in projects like Tanging Yaman, where she won a major acting award.
Despite her rising career, Janette left showbiz in 2002 at a young age. She later shared that her decision was influenced by several personal challenges. She had not finished her studies and felt a strong desire to return to school. At the same time, she was dealing with an unhealthy relationship and adjusting to a new environment, which made her experience in the industry overwhelming. Coming from Australia, she also struggled with the sudden shift in culture and lifestyle in Philippine showbiz.

Another major reason for her departure was the pressure caused by rumors, including false claims that she was pregnant. These issues affected her emotionally, and she chose to leave to protect her well-being. She admitted that the situation was difficult for her, especially at a young age, and it led to years of regret and personal struggles, including feeling lost and dealing with emotional stress while trying to live a normal life abroad.

Janette later attempted to return to acting after a few years and even landed a role in a television series, but her comeback was short-lived. She eventually decided to focus on her education and earned a degree. She also shared that she once auditioned for a reality show but declined to continue after being asked to admit something untrue for publicity.
