DND Warns Public Against False News on Middle East Conflict
DND – The Department of National Defense has warned the public not to believe or share false information spreading online about the recent conflict in the Middle East, especially claims that the Philippines might be Iran’s next target.
In a Facebook post on March 2, the DND said reports suggesting Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro is scared are completely false. The agency stressed that such videos and articles only cause confusion and unnecessary worry among Filipinos. Citizens are encouraged to get updates only from trusted and verified sources. The DND assured the public that it is ready to respond to any situation that could threaten the country or its citizens.
Officials also emphasized that the conflict is currently limited to the Middle East and does not affect any part of the Philippines. The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that they are alert and prepared for any emergencies but reassured the public that there is no immediate danger. PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said authorities remain watchful, but people should not panic over what is happening abroad.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. confirmed that one Filipina caregiver has sadly died in Israel due to the conflict. She was helping her elderly employer reach a bomb shelter but was caught before they could get there. The president highlighted the risks faced by overseas Filipinos while reassuring the public that the government is closely monitoring the situation.

Authorities continue to urge calm and caution, asking Filipinos to avoid spreading unverified news and to rely on credible sources. Both the DND and PNP emphasized that they are ready to protect Filipinos at home and abroad, and the current unrest does not pose a direct threat to the country.
