After Six Decades, 77-Year-Old Achieves Senior High School Graduation
MARIO RESURRECCION – A 77-year-old resident of Solana, Cagayan, is set to complete senior high school after nearly six decades away from formal education.
He studied Agri-Fishery Arts at Sampaguita National High School under the Technical Vocational Livelihood track. His journey has inspired many, particularly after a practice teacher shared updates online about his progress. Mario was noted for spending long hours in the library, asking thoughtful questions, and demonstrating genuine dedication to learning. These posts encouraged many people to offer assistance, which eventually reached him through the teacher.
Mario’s life reflects remarkable determination and responsibility. In his younger years, he was unable to attend college due to personal circumstances and became the only one among his siblings who did not finish school. He later served as a soldier and worked overseas to support his family. After ensuring that his children received the education he could not have, he chose to return to school and pursue his own aspirations. He enrolled in the Alternative Learning System to meet the requirements necessary for continuing his studies.

As he prepares to graduate on March 30, 2026, Mario plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering. He believes that agriculture is a vital sector in the Philippines and hopes to contribute to improving the livelihoods of farmers. While he recognizes that his age may limit his physical involvement in the future, he intends to share his knowledge to benefit others through education and technology.

Supporting himself through farming, Mario continues to work diligently without relying on his children. His story demonstrates that age is not a barrier to education. With focus, perseverance, and clear goals, he proves that it is never too late to achieve one’s dreams.
