Vice Ganda Mentions Impeachment in Pageant Joke on It’s Showtime

Vice Ganda Draws Attention After Joke About a Country Facing Dual Impeachment

VICE GANDA — The comedian became a trending topic after making a joke on It’s Showtime about how he would introduce himself if he joined a gay beauty pageant.

The moment happened during the segment Laro Laro Pick, when the hosts were casually talking about pageant introductions. Vice answered in a humorous way, presenting himself as an unlucky contestant, which immediately made the audience laugh.

The joke became more striking when Vice added that he came from a country where both the president and the vice president are facing impeachment complaints. Although clearly meant as comedy, the line stood out because it reflected real political events in the Philippines. The studio audience reacted with loud laughter and cheers, and the clip quickly gained attention online.

“Gustong-gusto namin sumasali ng beauty pageant. Ako, kunwari wala akong gagawin… Sasali ako Miss Gay talaga,” Vice Ganda said. “Paano intro mo?” Jhong Hilario asked.

“Magandang tanghali sa inyong lahat. Ako po si Maria Christina Minalasmalas. Ang babaeng walang ka-buwenas-buwenas. Mula sa nag-iisang bansa na nakaranas na ang Presidente at Bise-Presidente [ay] ini-impeach parehas. Ang angas, Pilipinas!” the comedian remarked.

The joke relates to recent political developments involving President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. Impeachment complaints have been filed against both leaders. The complaints against President Marcos Jr. were officially declared on February 2, 2026. The first complaint was filed in January by a party-list representative, followed by a second complaint initiated by the Makabayan Bloc after earlier attempts were not accepted due to procedural issues. These events drew strong public attention because it is uncommon for a sitting president to face multiple impeachment efforts.

A vote to determine whether the impeachment complaints against the president are sufficient in substance was scheduled for February 4. On the same day the complaints against the president were declared, an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte was also filed, led by the same political group. The timing of these events made Vice Ganda’s joke feel relevant and familiar to viewers.
