Sylvia Sanchez Reveals Whether She Has Plans to Enter Politics
SYLVIA SANCHEZ – The veteran actress responded to rumors that she is planning to run for mayor of Quezon City in the 2028 elections.
The award-winning actress and producer clarified that she has no plans to enter politics and has never held any local government position, which she believes are important steps before aspiring to a mayoral post. Speaking to the media during the contract signing for new talents at her Nathan Studios Artists Management on February 3, Sanchez expressed surprise at the circulating claims and said she does not know where they originated. She emphasized that her focus has always been on meaningful work, built over nearly two decades of dedication and effort.
Instead of politics, Sanchez revealed that her true calling lies in helping children with Down syndrome. This mission began while working on the film I’mPerfect, which starred young actors with Down syndrome and won Best Picture at the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival.

She described the project as life-changing and guided by God, emphasizing that she feels it is her responsibility to support and advocate for this community. Sanchez shared that the children have become an inseparable part of her life, and she is committed to accompanying them through screenings, festivals, and other projects that continue even after the film’s release.

Sanchez said the success of the film confirmed her path, explaining that it felt like a calling she could not ignore. She recalled how the project fully engaged her from October 2024 to August 2025 and how it gave her a sense of purpose, connecting her deeply with the children she now sees as her mission. She stressed that this work is far more meaningful to her than political ambitions and said she intends to continue helping the community through film and advocacy.
