SK Chairman Quits Post After Controversial Food-Handling Video
MARK ADRIAN NAPIZA — The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman of Barangay Bubukal in Sta. Cruz, Laguna — resigned following a controversy that quickly drew national attention.
His resignation came after a viral video showed him inserting his bare hands into a food steamer inside a convenience store and touching siopao and hotdogs that were being sold to customers. The incident happened on February 15, 2026. The video, which he initially posted on his own social media page, spread rapidly online and triggered widespread criticism.
Many people expressed disappointment over his behavior, saying that as an elected public official, he should have shown better judgment and respect for public health and proper conduct. The backlash grew so intense that the issue became a national topic. Although Napiza later deleted the video, copies had already circulated and were even featured in major news reports.

On February 20, 2026, Napiza formally stepped down from his position. In his resignation letter, he said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the youth in their barangay for nearly eight years. He thanked his fellow local officials and colleagues in the municipal government for their support and shared experiences. He explained that his decision to resign was a form of self-discipline and accountability for his mistake as a public servant. He added that he would continue to support youth programs in the town even after leaving office.
Before his resignation, Sta. Cruz Mayor Benjo Agarao had already filed an administrative complaint against him for conduct considered damaging to the best interest of the service. The complaint was based on recommendations from the Municipal Interior and Local Government Office and the Municipal Legal Office. A two-month preventive suspension had also been recommended while the case was under review to ensure a fair investigation.

In a public apology issued earlier, Napiza admitted his mistake. He said he bought all the food items he had touched and personally apologized to the convenience store management. He also stated that he was ready to accept any consequences resulting from his actions.
