Chef Jeremy Favia Reacts to Sister-in-Law Kitkat Over ‘Expired’ Pasalubong
KITKAT — The comedian faced public backlash after posting on social media about a souvenir food item she received from China, which she believed was already expired.
In her post, she shared that she noticed a date on the packaging and, after using a translation tool, concluded that the product was no longer safe to consume. She expressed concern because the item came from a close family member and mentioned her baby’s safety, which led her to question why such an item was given to them.
Her post quickly drew a response from her brother-in-law, celebrity chef Jeremy Favia, who clarified that the date printed on the packaging was not an expiration date but a manufacturing date. He explained that this format is common on Chinese products and that all members of their group bought the same items, which were offered by their tour guide.

He stressed that there was no intention to put anyone at risk, especially since the item was purchased by a grandmother for her own grandchild. He added that the buyer even prioritized purchasing souvenirs for others over buying items for herself.

Jeremy expressed disappointment that the issue was shared publicly without proper verification. He emphasized that a simple fact check could have prevented the misunderstanding and said the situation caused unnecessary embarrassment to his mother. To support his statement, he shared proof showing that the date referred to the product’s manufacturing date, not its expiration. He also pointed out that this was not the first time his mother had been publicly criticized and said the matter should have been handled privately.

Following the exchange, several netizens questioned why a family concern had to be shared online. Many noted that confusion over foreign product labels is common and can be easily resolved through proper checking.
