Vietnamese Creator Faces Online Harassment Over Michelle Dee
A Vietnamese content creator spoke out after being mistakenly linked to a controversy involving Filipino actress and beauty queen Michelle Dee. The confusion arose because they share the same name.
After Rhian Ramos’ driver and personal assistant, Bonifacio Baro, accused Michelle Dee of assault and serious illegal detention, the Vietnamese creator began receiving online harassment. She faced hateful comments and even death threats from people who thought she was the Filipino celebrity.
In a public statement, the Vietnamese content creator clarified her identity and asked people to be more careful. She said she is Vietnamese, living in the United States, in her 20s, with tattoos and colored hair, and has no connection to the Filipina actress. She urged people to stop leaving hurtful messages and threats, explaining that attacking a stranger in this way is harmful and unnecessary. She also reminded everyone that different people can share the same name and encouraged people to check facts before making assumptions.
To protect herself, she disabled comments on her Facebook page to prevent further negative messages and threats from people who confused her with the Filipina Michelle Dee. At the same time, some Filipino netizens apologized to her for the misunderstanding, acknowledging that she was unfairly dragged into the issue.
The situation also showed how sarcasm and careless online comments can be harmful. One person tried to make a joke, saying it was obvious she wasn’t the Filipina celebrity. The Vietnamese creator responded firmly, saying sarcasm is not appropriate when someone is accused of a crime and reminded everyone to think before posting.
Meanwhile, Michelle Dee, along with Rhian Ramos and Samantha Panlilio, have denied the allegations made by the Encantadia star’s driver and personal assistant.
