Nurse Faces Suspension for Letting Her Boyfriend Assist During Hospital Duty
CHINA — A nurse has been suspended after she brought her boyfriend to work during her night shift and allowed him to assist with hospital tasks, raising serious concerns about patient safety and professionalism.
The incident happened at a hospital in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and quickly went viral after the nurse shared videos of the situation on social media on January 2, 2026. In her post, she referred to her boyfriend as her night-shift companion and explained that he often stayed with her at the hospital because he worked during the day while she was assigned to night duty.
The videos showed the boyfriend inside restricted hospital areas on multiple occasions, indicating that this was not a one-time incident. More troubling to the public was footage of him performing duties meant only for licensed medical staff. He was seen writing patient medical records, using computers at the nurses’ station, preparing medications, and labeling intravenous bottles. These actions violated hospital rules and posed potential risks to patient safety, as such tasks require proper training and authorization.

The footage quickly spread online and triggered strong public backlash. Many viewers criticized the nurse for treating her workplace casually and questioned her judgment, especially for allowing an unqualified person to assist with medical work while she recorded videos during duty hours. Netizens also raised concerns about her ability to stay focused on patient care and maintain professional standards.

Hospital officials confirmed that they were aware of the incident and immediately launched an investigation. They emphasized that the issue was serious and involved clear violations of medical safety rules. Authorities stressed that hospitals must strictly protect patient welfare and that any breach of discipline would be addressed firmly.
Following the investigation, the nurse was suspended from her position for violating workplace discipline.
