Lani Mercado-Revilla Appeals for Due Process for Husband Bong Revilla

Lani Mercado-Revilla: “I ask for understanding, fairness, and respect for due process.”

LANI MERCADO-REVILLA — The Cavite Second District Representative has asked for understanding and respect for due process regarding her husband, former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., who is currently in jail over graft and misuse of public funds linked to alleged irregularities in a flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.

On the first day of her husband’s stay at the New City Jail Male Dormitory in Payatas, Quezon City, Lani posted a statement on her official Facebook page, calling for fairness and patience as the case proceeds through the courts. She clarified that she has not made any public comments about the case and does not plan to make any in the future. She added that her family draws strength from their faith and remains hopeful for a fair outcome.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bong Revilla was visited by his children—Agimat Party-list Representative Bryan Revilla, Cavite First District Representative Jolo Revilla, and Gianna Revilla—along with his sister Andrea Bautista-Ynares. The family did not speak to reporters outside the jail. When asked about their father’s first night in detention, Jolo said no comment, while Bryan simply nodded in response to questions about his father’s condition.

Meanwhile, frmer Senator Bong Revilla was arrested after an anti-graft court issued a warrant and a hold-departure order against him and several others in connection with a P92.8‑million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan. Authorities said the project was reported as finished despite little or no actual work being done, resulting in charges of malversation of public funds and graft for submitting false documents.

Revilla voluntarily surrendered to authorities and was brought to the Quezon City Jail in Payatas. He was able to post bail for the graft case but remains in detention because the malversation charge cannot be bailed under Philippine law.
