Razon Sues Barzaga Over Alleged Corruption Claims on Facebook
ENRIQUE RAZON JR. — The business tycoon has filed a cyberlibel complaint against Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga after a social media post allegedly linked him to corruption in Congress.
Razon, the owner of Solaire Resort and Casino and chairman of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), is recognized as the second-richest Filipino based on Forbes Asia’s Philippines’ 50 Richest 2025 list. The complaint was submitted to the Makati Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
According to Razon’s lawyer, Atty. Laurence Arroyo, the case stems from a Facebook post made by Barzaga on January 9, in which the congressman reportedly accused the businessman of bribing several members of the National Unity Party (NUP) to support former House Speaker Martin Romualdez during the 2025 midterm elections. Razon’s camp maintains that these claims are false, damaging, and made with harmful intent. Although the controversial post has already been deleted, the legal action continues.

Barzaga, however, has shown no sign of backing down. In his own Facebook post on January 14, he stated that he is ready to face Razon in court and stand by his claims. He expressed confidence that the issue should be resolved through proper legal proceedings and encouraged a swift court process to bring out the truth. His strong stance has further intensified public attention on the case, especially among social media users closely following political controversies.

Meanwhile, even before Razon officially filed his complaint, House Deputy Speaker and NUP Chairman Ronaldo “Ronnie” Puno announced that he and other party members are also preparing to file a separate case against Barzaga. Puno explained that the accusations against the party were irresponsible, unfounded, and harmful to the reputation of its members. He stressed that Barzaga’s statements unfairly dragged the entire party into controversy, noting that the NUP was once led by Barzaga’s father and that Barzaga himself had previously been part of the group. According to Puno, legal action is necessary to protect the integrity of the party and hold Barzaga accountable for his public claims.
