Why Candy Pangilinan’s Call for Higher Teacher Salaries Should Be Everyone’s Fight

Candy Pangilinan Pushes for Better Pay and Better Education

CANDY PANGILINAN – Actress and vlogger Candy Pangilinan’s bold message on raising teacher salaries has ignited a renewed call for meaningful reform in the country’s education system.

Candy Pangilinan has spoken up about the need to increase teachers’ salaries, stressing how proper compensation can greatly influence the quality of education in the Philippines.

In a statement posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Candy emphasized that both public and private school teachers deserve a significant pay raise. For her, improving their financial well-being could translate to better learning opportunities for students across the country.

Her strong remarks quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with many netizens weighing in on the connection between proper education, societal behavior, and leadership decisions made by voters.

One user pointed out the complexity of improving education quality, saying, “Itaas ang sweldo = yes. Matutunan ang tama = napakahirap, dahil nasa tao den ultimately, reinforced by values-formation sa bahay. Maraming politicians nagtapos sa supposedly high-quality schools at matalino, pero wala den. Same behavior, mapa-government, corporate, and showbiz.”

Another netizen shifted the focus to broader, systemic issues that affect teachers beyond compensation. According to the comment, “More non-teaching staff, vehicles, more teaching materials, lesser seminars that is actually unnecessary if not actually applied to learning and better system. The way I see it, EDUCATION now focuses more on survival rather than learning.”

Candy Pangilinan eventually responded to one of the comments, agreeing that values education should also start at home and be strengthened by both families and schools. She stressed the need to revive essential moral foundations among the youth.

She added, “Ibalik ang value formation. Saka yung love for country. Hindi naituturo. Naipaparamdam. Ipamulat,” highlighting her belief that love for country and strong core values must be nurtured early.
