Sarah Discaya Worried About Kids, Vince Dizon Responds
VINCE DIZON – The Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways responded firmly to contractor Sarah Discaya’s recent emotional statements about her fear of being separated from her children while in custody at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Discaya had publicly shared her worries about possibly going to jail, emphasizing that her children, who have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), would be left without her care.
In a statement on December 11, Dizon suggested that Discaya should save her explanations for the court and the police, noting that there is now an active case and an impending arrest warrant. He emphasized that the authorities have strong evidence against her and other individuals involved in allegedly anomalous flood control projects.
Dizon questioned why Discaya seems primarily concerned about her own situation, insisting that she should also consider the citizens affected by the projects. He highlighted the communities in Bulacan and Davao Occidental, where people have suffered from floods because essential flood control projects, including schools and housing protections, were left unfinished or turned out to be “ghost projects.”

“Ang hindi ko lang maintindihan, naaawa siya sa pamilya niya, naaawa siya kung kanino, dapat maaawa din siya doon sa mga taong biniktima nila,” he said.
The DPWH secretary also raised concerns about Discaya’s lifestyle, pointing to her purchase of a luxury Rolls-Royce car, reportedly inspired by the umbrella included with the vehicle. Dizon asked where she obtained the funds for such extravagant purchases, stressing that claiming she was “just dragged into the situation” does not absolve her of responsibility.

Discaya, for her part, expressed her fear of imprisonment, citing her role as a mother to children with special needs and her husband’s work in the Senate. She described the emotional difficulty of imagining her children left without her care, highlighting the personal dimension of her anxiety.
