Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Gives Message for Filipinos amid the Issues in PH this Christmas
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President calls on the Filipinos to pray for a better year this 2026 despite of everything that is happening now.
It is now Christmas season again and the Philippines is one of the countries with the longest celebration of Christmas. Many Filipino families really try to prepare for this season which is known as “the most wonderful time of the year”. However, amid the season, a lot of corruption issues are hurling the government. The supposed massive flood control corruption brought thousands of Filipinos to the streets to protest.
The so-called “Trillion Peso March” was held last September 21 and November 30. A lot of known celebrities in the showbiz industry as well as some government officials joined the protest against corruption. It came after several government officials were tagged in the flood control mess. Amid the issue, President Bongbong Marcos ordered the creation of an independent probe team that will investigate the infrastructure projects of the government — which led to the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure.
More popularly known as ICI, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure is a three-member body that was created under the executive order led by the Palace. Former Justice Andres Reyes Jr. was appointed as the chairman of the investigative body.
The ICI has already submitted recommendations to the Office of the Ombudsman over the filing of charges against Zaldy Co and senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva among others. It also recommended the filing of case against former Sen. Bong Revilla.
Aside from congressmen, senators, former senators and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), some contractors were also tagged in the flood control mess. Marcos Jr. recently ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to prepare for the arrest of Sarah Discaya over the alleged P100 million ghost flood control project.
Recently, amid the Philippines having supposed massive corruption issues now that it is Christmas season, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called on the Filipinos to pray for a better year in 2026. She recognized that the recent happenings in the country most especially the corruption issues are saddening.
“Malungkot ang Pasko natin dahin hindi natin gusto ang nangyayari sa ating bansa lalong-lalo na ‘yung mga eskandalo sa korupsyon at pang-aabuso sa posisyon at opisina ng gobyerno,” the Vice President said.
Despite the happenings in the country now, based on a post of News5 on social media, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called on the Filipinos to be strong and resilient. According to her, we should get past Christmas with hopeful hearts.
“Kailangan nating maging matatag. As Filipinos, we are known to be resilient kaya kailangan nating itawid itong Pasko na ito na merong pag-asa sa ating mga puso… Ipagdasal natin na [maging] mas maganda ang ating taong 2026,“ Duterte said.
Based on the post, the Vice President gave the message during an interview in The Hague, Netherlands. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte recently visited former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte after the ICC junked his interim release appeal.
