VP Sara Duterte Extends Message of Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for Filipinos
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President gave a message for the Filipino people amid his continued detention under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Former Pres. Duterte remains detained under the custody of the ICC for over 9 months now as he faces three (3) counts of murder as alleged “crimes against humanity”. His interim release plea was recently denied by the foreign court.
The Duterte family immediately released a statement after the ICC junked the interim release appeal of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. According to the Dutertes, they accept the ruling of the foreign court “with open hearts”. Currently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is in The Hague, Netherlands for her father.
Only the grandson of former Pres. Duterte, Davao Congressman Omar Duterte, and his wife and kids were in The Hague when the ICC held its hearing for his interim release appeal. The former Chief Executive signed a waiver to waive his personal rights to attend the said hearing. He was represented by his lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte attended a gathering with their family’s supporters in The Hague and the overseas Filipinos who travelled all the way to The Netherlands to support former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Based on a post of News5 on social media, at the event, the Vice President extended the message of her father for the Filipino people.
“Nandidito kami as long as gusto pa kami ng tao. Hindi kami mamimilit kung ano ‘yung gusto ng taong-bayan,” the Vice President said referring to the statement of her father.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also expressed her gratitude to her supporters. Based on the post, the Vice President claimed that she is really blessed as a politician because of her supporters.
“Alam niyo I am truly blessed as a politician kasi kahit anong paninira ng mga kalaban sa akin, nandyan pa rin ‘yung taumbayan. The supporters from 2015, 2016, from 2019, from 2022, nandyan pa rin kayo. You know how to discern ano ‘yung paninira and ano ‘yung katotohanan. For that I am truly blessed. As I said I thank you,” she said.
Previously, ICC lawyer Nicholas Kaufman confirmed that they might appeal for an interim release again after the medical reports of the former President is out. Shortly after the interim release plea was decided on, the British-Israeli Lawyer confirmed that they have received the medical reports of former Pres. Duterte.
