Could Jonvic Remulla Run for President?
JONVIC REMULLA – The Department of Interior and Local Government secretary has raised the possibility of running for president in the 2028 elections, though he has not made a final decision. In a December 22 interview with ANC, Remulla said he would consider a presidential bid if the race offered a clear, one-on-one choice for voters, emphasizing the need for a distinct contrast between candidates.
Remulla believes that voters should be able to choose between different visions of governance and truth. He stressed that the election should show a clear comparison between candidates, allowing the public to decide on a believable and common future for the country. He mentioned that if he does not run, other possible candidates could include Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon or Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, but the key factor is ensuring a meaningful choice for voters.
With three terms as Cavite governor under his belt, Remulla has significant experience in local governance, which he brings to his current role as DILG secretary under President Marcos. He also noted that any decision to run would require the approval of his wife, indicating that personal and family considerations remain important in his deliberation. “It’s a possibility. No conclusion yet, but it is a possibility,” Jonvic Remulla said.

Remulla’s remarks suggest that while a presidential bid is possible, he is carefully considering the timing, political environment, and clarity of choice for voters before making a formal announcement. His focus on a dichotomous election reflects his view that the electorate should see a clear difference in governance style and leadership vision, rather than a crowded field of candidates with unclear positions.

At this stage, Remulla has neither confirmed nor rejected a run for the presidency, leaving speculation about his political plans for 2028.
