Typhoon Victim in Mandaue Appeals for Relief Goods ‘Hindi namin kailangan ng pera!’

Typhoon Victim in Mandaue Asks for Relief Goods, Not Money After Typhoon Tino

A typhoon victim in Mandaue appealed for relief goods such as food and basic supplies instead of money.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Tino, residents of Paknaan, Mandaue City, Cebu, continued to struggle after days of heavy flooding left many homes damaged and families displaced. Among them is Michael Guinto, who made a heartfelt plea for help, asking for relief goods such as food and basic supplies instead of money.

In a video, Guinto could be seen surrounded by mud-soaked belongings salvaged from his flooded home. He said they do not need cash donations but food and essential items to survive the difficult days ahead.

“Sana lang may merong magdo-donate ba, kahit relief good lang! Hindi namin kailangan ng pera, sir. Depende na ‘yan sa government kung ano na ang ibigay,” Guinto said.

According to Guinto, many residents in their area have been finding their own ways to get by. Some have started selling small items just to buy something to eat, while others rely on what little they have left. With tears in his eyes, he expressed how hunger has become their biggest challenge since the typhoon hit.

Meanwhile, Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro reported that rescue and relief operations are ongoing across affected towns and cities. She said local and national agencies are working together to deliver food packs, medicine, and other aid to those in need.

Governor Baricuatro personally visited evacuation centers in Talisay, Liloan, and Consolacion to check on displaced families. Ready-to-eat meals and bread were distributed, and medical assistance was given to responders and evacuees.

“By midday, I made calls to various national agencies, representatives from Malacañang, several senators, and cabinet secretaries to request immediate assistance and additional support for our affected towns,” Baricuatro said.

Roads remain difficult to pass in some areas, making relief efforts slower, but teams continue to work around the clock to reach isolated communities. Despite the devastation, Cebuanos continue to show resilience and compassion.
