Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Dad Rodrigo amid his ICC Detention
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President broke her silence on the rumors that her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, was allegedly found unconscious inside his room in the International Criminal Court (ICC) Detention Facility in The Hague, Netherlands.
The ICC rejected the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, thus, he remains under the custody of the foreign court in The Hague since March. The former President is faced with three (3) counts of murder as alleged “crimes against humanity” filed by the ICC prosecution.
Duterte was arrested last March 11 by the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol. The ICC has long investigated the drug war of the Duterte administration. The Duterte siblings and their families and relatives took turn in visiting the former Chief Executive inside the ICC detention facility in The Hague.
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that a “third country” allegedly committed to host the interim release of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte if the ICC will grant it. She claimed that the former President needs a 24-hour caregiver to take care of him.
The younger Duterte also previously claimed that her father was allegedly found unconscious in the floor of his ICC room and was brought to a hospital supposedly without informing them. Recently, the same claim circulated on social media but it was not from the Vice President.
Amid the rumors circulating online that sparked worries among the Duterte supporters, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte recently broke her silence and clarified that it is not true that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was allegedly found unconscious in his ICC room. Based on a report on PhilStar, the Vice President confirmed that her father’s lawyer was able to talk to the former President.
“His lawyer called him last night, especially after the news came out that he was found unconscious in his room, and the lawyer said that he was OK,” Vice Pres. Duterte said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte further stressed that the reports are “not true and nothing sort of happened”. According to her, even former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte himself called the claim as possibly a prank. She stressed that they now await the decision of the ICC on their appeal over the court’s decision on her father’s interim release plea.
“We hope to hear good news… But if not, the family will continue to support him in his stay in The Hague and work with his defense team regarding his legal case,” the Vice President said.
Amid the ICC detention of former Pres. Duterte, Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed that he allegedly has a “copy” of the ICC arrest warrant against Senator Bato dela Rosa. He was the first chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the tenure of Duterte.
