Resident Expresses Disappointment After Finding Dead Monkey Along the Road in Puerto Princesa
A resident expressed disappointment after finding dead monkey on Puerto Princesa and urged public to stop feeding wild animals, as it puts them at risk.
On Monday morning, November 17, 2025, Rey Donn Mariñas Villablanca, a Facebook user, shared what happened after discovering the lifeless monkey lying on the road in Barangay Sta. Lucia. The post quickly went viral and drew various reactions from people online.
Rey said it was likely that the monkey was hit by a passing vehicle. He added that wild monkeys have been leaving the forest and approaching the roadside because people often stop to take photos and hand them food.

He explained that this makes the animals dependent on humans and leads them to unsafe areas.
Villablanca also pointed out that the location where monkeys are commonly seen is part of the proposed Malabo Critical Habitat, a place meant to protect these creatures and keep them away from human-related dangers.
Instead of staying in their natural environment, some monkeys are now roaming near highways where they face accidents and stress.

Rey urged motorists and travelers to avoid feeding the macaques and other wildlife. He reminded the public that these animals are meant to survive on their own in the forest, where they play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem. Feeding them, he said, changes their natural behavior and exposes them to harm.
The Philippine long-tailed macaque is listed as an endangered species under PCSD Resolution No. 15-521. Rey hopes the community will take the incident as a wake-up call and show genuine care by allowing wildlife to remain wild.
