Karl Eldrew Yulo Unbothered by Comparisons to Brother Carlos Yulo

Karl Eldrew Yulo Stays Unfazed by Public Comparisons

KARL ELDREW YULO — The double bronze medalist remains unfazed by public comparisons between him and his older brother, double gold medalist Carlos “Caloy” Yulo.

In a press conference on Monday, November 24, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City, Eldrew said he ignores such comparisons and focuses on his own goals. He explained that every athlete has their own style and path in life, so what people say does not define him. He added that constant comparisons are like talking to a stone—they simply do not affect him.

He started by saying, “Just ignore. I mean just focus on your goal.” He clarified, “You have different styles. You have different paths in life. So kung anoman ‘yong sinasabi ng ibang tao, I don’t care.”

However, Eldrew admitted that he is sometimes affected by the comparisons, though he quickly pointed out that he does not let them distract him. His approach shows maturity for his age, emphasizing self-improvement and personal success rather than public opinion. He admitted that at times the comparisons do affect him, but he does not let it bother him.

Eldrew recently won the bronze medal in the floor exercise final at the 2025 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships, held on Sunday, November 23, at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City. He finished behind China’s Yang Lanbin, who took gold with 13.833 points, and Italy’s Simone Speranza, who won silver with 13.766 points. Eldrew scored 13.733, securing third place.

This medal is especially meaningful because Eldrew spent the past six months training intensively in Japan under coach Munehiro Kugimiya, who also coached his brother Carlos. Carlos had previously made history by winning two Olympic gold medals in Paris 2024, making the Yulo family well-known in gymnastics.

For Karl Eldrew, this bronze medal is his biggest achievement so far.
