Juan Ponce Enrile’s Daughter Gives Update About His Current Condition

Update on the Current Condition of Juan Ponce Enrile

Katrina Ponce Enrile shared an update on her father, Juan Ponce Enrile, saying that he is still in the ICU receiving treatment for pneumonia.

Juan Valentin Furagganan Ponce Enrile Sr., or JPE, is a veteran politician and lawyer with a long career in public service. He has served four terms in the Philippine Senate, totaling twenty-three years, making him one of the longest-serving senators in the country’s history. From 2008 to 2013, he was the 21st Senate President. In 2022, at 98 years old, he returned to government service as Chief Presidential Legal Counsel under President Bongbong Marcos.

Enrile first became well-known as a close ally of President Ferdinand Marcos, holding important positions such as Justice Secretary and Defense Minister. He played a major role in planning and implementing Martial Law, overseeing the Philippine Military, and managing industries like the Philippine Coconut Authority and logging, which affected the country’s economy and forests. By the 1980s, conflicts within Marcos’s administration reduced his influence.

In 1986, Enrile and the Reform the Armed Forces Movement planned to overthrow Marcos. When the plan was discovered, he took a defensive position at Camp Aguinaldo. With the support of General Fidel Ramos and thousands of civilians who joined them on Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, Enrile became a key figure in the People Power Revolution, which eventually forced Marcos into exile.

Since then, Enrile has remained active in politics, serving in roles such as Senate Minority Leader.

Meanwhile, Katrina Ponce Enrile gave an update on her father, stating that he remains in the ICU receiving treatment for pneumonia. She assured that he is under the careful attention of his doctors and medical staff, who are providing him with the best care possible. Katrina also thanked everyone for their prayers, concern, and support for the family during this difficult time.
