Driver May Face Charges for Removing Wheel Clamp & Taking Government Tool in Legazpi City

A vehicle driver who removed a wheel clamp from his vehicle and took a government tool in Legazpi may face charges.

A driver in Legazpi City may face legal trouble after forcibly removing the wheel clamp from his vehicle and taking the government-owned clamping tool with him. The incident happened near a major mall in the city, where the vehicle had been parked illegally.

According to Public Safety Office (PSO) Chief Octavio Rivero, the driver’s actions were completely unacceptable. He explained in a radio interview that the vehicle was properly clamped because it was parked in a restricted area.

The procedure is standard, especially in busy spots where illegal parking often causes traffic problems.

However, instead of settling the violation through the proper process, the driver allegedly removed the clamped wheel himself. Witnesses said he lifted the wheel—clamp and all—and loaded it into an L300 van along with the clamping device.

The PSO chief pointed out that this tool is government property, and taking it without permission could lead to additional charges.

Rivero emphasized that there is a clear process for motorists whose vehicles are clamped. They are supposed to speak with the public safety officer on the scene or go directly to the PSO office to settle the violation.

The driver’s decision to take matters into his own hands not only broke the rules but also disrupted city operations, as the missing clamp is an issue the office now has to address.

Authorities are now studying possible charges against the driver, including theft of government equipment and obstruction of official duties.

The PSO reminds the public that following the proper procedure is always the best approach, especially in situations involving traffic violations. Instead of creating more trouble, motorists are encouraged to cooperate to avoid bigger problems later on.
