Brave 15-Year-Old Rescues Community During Typhoon Tino
When Typhoon Tino unleashed devastating floods across Villa Lara, Jubay, one young hero stood out: 15-year-old Jayboy Magdadaro from Fatima, Jubay. Initially, Jayboy evacuated with his family to Sitio San Roque, fearing their own neighborhood would be hardest hit. But when he learned that Villa Lara was in greater danger, he didn’t hesitate to return.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., armed only with a lifebuoy and a small boat, Jayboy navigated treacherous floodwaters to rescue trapped residents, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Along the way, he even saw lifeless bodies floating amid the chaos — a stark reminder of the destruction around him. Despite the danger and exhaustion, he pressed on, putting others’ lives above his own safety.
After saving over 50 people, some of the rescued residents offered him money and food as thanks, but Jayboy humbly refused. For him, helping others was reward enough. His courage was not motivated by recognition or reward; it was driven by genuine compassion and a strong sense of responsibility to his community.

At just 15 years old, Jayboy has shown the true meaning of heroism: bravery without hesitation, kindness without expectation, and service without reward. His selfless actions inspire not only his neighbors in Jubay but also the entire nation. Jayboy’s story is a reminder of the courage and heart that young people can show when they step up in times of crisis. His heroism deserves recognition, admiration, and, above all, gratitude from everyone whose lives he touched.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Kalmaegi, locally called Typhoon Tino, struck the central Philippines in early November 2025, causing widespread devastation, particularly in Cebu. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding killed at least 224 people, injured 526, and left 109 missing, displacing over half a million. The storm damaged homes, roads, bridges, and power lines, prompting states of calamity in several provinces. Kalmaegi later hit Vietnam and Thailand, adding more casualties and destruction.
