Zaldy and Mylene Co’s Renewal of Vows Draws Public Attention
A grand renewal of vows by former Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co and his wife Mylene at the Vatican has put them back in the public eye.
The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in July 2024 at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Photos and videos of the event later resurfaced, gaining attention after Zaldy resigned from Congress in September 2025 following accusations of corruption involving billions of pesos in flood control projects.
The ceremony included prominent personalities. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle was seen leading the vows, Robi Domingo hosted the reception, and Martin Nievera sang for Mylene. Videos also showed that the couple bought their wedding rings and Mylene’s gown from Chanel, reflecting the luxury of the event. At the time, Zaldy had not yet been accused of corruption, suggesting that Tagle, Domingo, and Nievera were unaware of the issues that later surfaced.

Mylene works as the chief financial officer of Sunwest Inc., the family’s construction company. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had previously named Sunwest as one of the firms that received many flood control projects from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), further drawing attention to the couple.
Many pointed out that celebrities often attend or perform at private events as part of their jobs and should not be blamed for the actions of those who hire them. This is similar to past cases where artists were invited to big private parties hosted by powerful families.

In an interview, Cardinal Tagle gave a firm reminder about corruption: “We are stewards. No one should pretend to be the owner and the Lord of everything. Can you please look at yourself and with humility say, ‘I am not God.’ The government officials are not owners of the nation’s wealth, but administrators who must manage public funds honestly and responsibly.”
Robi Domingo did not mention the event on his social media, but his Instagram showed that he and his wife, Maiqui Pineda, were in Italy around the same time.
