Vice Ganda Encourages Youth to Pursue Psychology

VICE GANDA – Kapamilya host Vice Ganda once again proved that laughter and wisdom can go hand in hand as he delivered a heartfelt message about the country’s lack of psychologists during a touching It’s Showtime episode.

Vice Ganda once again touched the hearts of many viewers as he shared an inspiring message about mental health and the importance of pursuing psychology as a profession during a recent episode of It’s Showtime. The meaningful moment happened on the October 11 episode of the show’s segment “Laro Laro Pick,” where the Phenomenal Box-Office Star spoke with a contestant who is a working student.

The contestant, Phery, a 21-year-old fourth-year Psychology student at STI Lipa, works as a service crew member at a fast-food chain to support her studies. According to her, she dreams of becoming a lawyer or a flight attendant, but decided to take Psychology as a backup plan. “Gusto ko po talaga maging lawyer po, so puwede po ‘yung BA Psych. Then gusto ko rin po maging flight attendant… hindi ko na po tinake ‘yung Tourism,” she explained.

Vice Ganda then gave heartfelt advice that quickly gained admiration from the audience and viewers online. “Maganda rin kung ididiretso mo ‘yung pagiging psychologist mo,” said Vice. “Kasi kailangan natin ng mas maraming psychologist, ‘di ba?” he added.

The comedian went on to explain the shortage of mental health professionals in the Philippines, emphasizing how mental health issues affect a large part of society, especially during the pandemic. He stated, “Sa bansa na lang natin hindi na tayo lalabas, lahat ng Pilipino ay may mental health.”

Vice also pointed out that while there are many kinds of doctors in the country, there are still very few professionals who focus on the mental well-being of Filipinos. “Ang daming surgeons, ang daming iba’t ibang uri ng doktor. Pero ang mga psychologist at psychiatrist sa Pilipinas, kokonti lang,” he explained.

Vice Ganda further reminded viewers of the struggles faced by mental health experts during the pandemic. “Kaya nu’ng pandemic, ‘di ba, mangarag-ngarag ‘yung mga psychologist at psychiatrist sa dami ng nangangailangan ng tulong, hindi lahat napagbigyan,” he added.
