Several Residents Bravely Stop Workers From Digging Up Still-Intact Road
Several residents bravely stopped workers from digging up and excavating a road that was not damaged.
Recently, Facebook user Ramil Mending Idial shared a video showing some residents preventing the workers from continuing the excavation of the still-intact road. The post quickly went viral and gathered different reactions from the online community.
In the video, the roadwork had just started when a few residents approached the workers to stop the operation. The residents insisted that the road was still in good condition and there was no reason to destroy and repair it again.

Many netizens echoed the same question that often arises whenever newly built roads are suddenly destroyed and reconstructed: why fix something that isn’t broken?
According to DPWH, some projects are part of the agency’s preventive maintenance program, known as “reblocking.” Even roads that look fine on the surface may have hidden cracks or weak foundations underneath. Replacing them early helps prevent further damage later on.
However, not all excavations are DPWH projects. Some are carried out by other agencies such as water districts, internet providers, or electric companies that need to install underground pipes or cables.
Unfortunately, this often leads to newly paved roads being dug up again shortly after completion.
There are also cases when projects are rushed due to the “use it or lose it” budget policy, where funds must be spent before the year ends. Some roads are even replaced because the previous contractor’s work failed quality tests.
While there are valid reasons behind some of these projects, residents can’t help but feel frustrated, especially when still-usable roads are being destroyed while many areas remain muddy and unpaved.
