Ombudsman Boying Remulla Now Cancer-Free and in Good Health

Ombudsman Boying Remulla is Healthy and Cancer-Free After Treatment

BOYING REMULLA — The Ombudsman has been declared cancer-free for one and a half years and is now in good health, according to an official statement released by the Office of the Ombudsman on Monday, October 27, 2025.

The statement clarified that Remulla is “nasa mabuting kalusugan at patuloy na ginagampanan ang kaniyang tungkulin nang buong sigla at dedikasyon.” The agency assured the public that the Ombudsman has fully recovered from his previous illness and remains active in fulfilling his responsibilities.

This clarification came after reports circulated on Sunday, October 26, regarding Remulla’s past health struggles involving a heart condition and leukemia. The Office explained that his recent statements about his health were spoken in the past tense because they referred to events that occurred before he assumed office as Ombudsman.

Remulla previously shared that in 2023, doctors discovered he had a serious heart ailment that required open-heart bypass surgery. After recovering from the procedure, he was later diagnosed with leukemia, a type of blood cancer. He underwent treatment at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City, which included two cycles of chemotherapy, total body irradiation, and a bone marrow transplant.

Fortunately, his treatment was successful, and he has since made a full recovery. The Office of the Ombudsman emphasized that Remulla has been cancer-free for one and a half years and remains deeply committed to fulfilling his mandate with integrity and determination.

Moreover, the statement highlighted Remulla’s continued dedication to ensuring accountability in government, particularly in investigating alleged irregularities in flood control projects. “Tinitiyak namin sa publiko na determinado ang Ombudsman na papanagutin ang mga responsable sa isyung ito ng flood control-at higit pa siyang nasa mabuting kalagayan upang gawin iyon,” the Office stated.
