Netizens Touched by Old Man’s PHP19 Donation for Cebu Earthquake Victims
An old man’s PHP19 donation for Cebu earthquake victims has gone viral, touching thousands of people online who called it the “greatest gift” despite its small amount.
The story was shared by Cebu content creator Jennivieve Abelgas Caminero on October 2, 2025, just days after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck northern Cebu, killing dozens and leaving thousands homeless. Many groups and individuals have been sending help, but it was this man’s simple act that caught the attention of netizens.
According to Jennivieve’s post, the man, dressed in a yellow shirt and carrying a sack bag, came to their donation drive. He reached into his pocket and handed over PHP19, saying it came from the heart. At first, the volunteers explained that they only accepted bank transfers, but they eventually made an exception because his sincerity so touched them. The group admitted they cried after he left.

What moved them even more was when the man asked if they would still be there the following Monday. He promised to return after collecting old T-shirts to donate to the victims. This simple promise showed his strong willingness to help, even though he had so little himself.
Netizens quickly reacted to the post, praising the man’s kindness. Many said that among all who gave, the old man offered the greatest donation because it was the only thing he had. Others pointed out that his PHP19 was not just money but a reminder that even the smallest gift can carry the greatest love and hope. Some also noted that people who know what it’s like to have nothing are often the ones who give the most.

His act of giving was also compared to corrupt officials who live in luxury. Netizens remarked that while officials enjoy wealth from stolen money, people like Tatay, who have almost nothing, still give more.
Later on, Jennivieve gave an update that they had already found Tatay. She explained that many people had reached out to her wanting to help him, and she is now in contact with his family to arrange further support.
