Man Caught Stealing Goya Chocolate at Isetann Recto Mall
GOYA CHOCOLATE – A 44-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing a chocolate bar worth ₱80 from a mall in Manila. The suspect, identified as Joey Del Rosario, a resident of Malate, Manila, was caught stealing inside Isetann Recto Mall in Quiapo on the morning of October 6, 2025.
According to the Manila Police District (MPD), the incident happened around 11:07 a.m. when a mall security guard saw Del Rosario take a Goya Chacha milk chocolate from a store shelf without paying. When the guard asked for a receipt, Del Rosario could not show any proof of payment. He was immediately apprehended and brought to the Sta. Cruz Police Station (PS3) for questioning.
Before being detained, Del Rosario was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical check-up, which is part of standard police procedure. Authorities are now preparing the documents to file a theft case against him under Article 308 of the Revised Penal Code.

The incident drew public attention online, with mixed reactions from netizens. Some criticized the act of stealing, while others said poverty might have driven him to do it. Even though the stolen item was only a small chocolate bar, police reminded everyone that stealing—no matter how small—remains a crime and can result in jail time.
Police officials also urged the public to obey the law and find honest ways to meet their needs instead of resorting to theft. Del Rosario remains in police custody while authorities prepare the final complaint for filing in court.

Meanwhile, a person found guilty of theft may face up to 30 days in jail, possible fines, and a criminal record that could affect future job or travel opportunities. Although first-time offenders may receive lighter punishment, stealing still has serious legal and social consequences.
