Press Officer of Malacañang Hits Back at Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s Remarks
Malacañang reacted to the criticism of Vice President Sara Duterte against the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
Several senators and congressmen are accused of flood control corruption. The supposed multi-billion scam left countless Filipinos angry and disappointed. Pres. Bongbong Marcos previously ordered the concerned institutions to really ensure the evidence against the ones who are allegedly responsible in corrupting the government funds. He also ordered the creation of an independent body that will investigate the issue.

Following the order of Marcos Jr., an independent probe team with the power to move for the seizure of assets was formed — the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI. It is a three (3) member body led by a former Supreme Court justice. It is conducting closed-door hearings in line with the investigation. It has invited some government officials to the hearing.

The ICI has invited presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez who resigned from being the House speaker amid the flood control corruption accusation. However, he asked the investigative team to postpone the October 22 hearing for his “medical procedure”.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte aired her belief that the creation of the ICI is allegedly to legitimize the story that the Marcos Jr. administration supposedly wants the people to believe in. Malacañang reacted to the claims of the Vice President.

Based on a report on PhilStar, Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro tagged the people who are part of the government but are unable to help the government and the country as supposedly “pitiful”. She stressed that the members of the ICI are not politicians and are all experts.
“Kaawa-awa ang mga taong parte ng gobyerno pero hindi nakakatulong sa gobyerno at sa bayan. Kaawa-awa ang taong naturingang public servant; puro haka-haka lang ang sinasabi para makapanira sa gobyerno,” she said.
According to Castro, the alleged “patched-up” stories of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte have no value. Based on the report, she raised a question if the Vice President allegedly fears that something might be uncovered by the ICC investigation so she’s criticizing the commission.
“Ang mga tahi-tahi nyang kwento ay walang halaga. Hindi na dapat intindihan pa. Ang tanong: May kinatatakutan ba siyang mabunyag sa ginagawang pag-iimbestiga kaya pilit niyang sinisiraan ng integridad ng ICI? Tandaan natin ang mga miyembro po ng ICI ay puro experts at may integridad at wala nang politiko rito,” the Malacañang press official said.

Despite that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure was made upon the order of the President, there are speculations and claims that the flood control probe will allegedly lead to the doorsteps of Malacañang. There are also calls for the resignation of the Chief Executive.
According to Pres. Bongbong Marcos, he is not hiding anything over the flood control issue. He believes that the opposition wants him ousted, thus, they want him involved in the mess.
