LTO Regional Director Suspended for Alleged Corruption

LTO Director Under Investigation for Corruption

The Regional Director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in MIMAROPA has been suspended following allegations of corruption within his office.

According to LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao, the reported scheme involved delaying the processing of applications from clients to pressure them into paying around ₱50,000 per month in exchange for faster approval. One complainant even presented a money remittance receipt as proof of payment.

Lacanilao added that several transport groups also filed complaints, claiming that some officials in the regional office demanded ₱7,000 per vehicle to avoid unnecessary inspection issues or documentation problems. Because of these serious allegations, the regional director has been temporarily reassigned to the LTO Central Office while a thorough investigation is being conducted.

Aside from the corruption complaints, Lacanilao pointed out that the office also failed to provide proper service to the public. He noted that even the chairs in the waiting area were broken, reflecting a lack of concern for public comfort. Lacanilao assured the public that the LTO will not tolerate any form of corruption and will continue implementing measures to restore public trust in the agency’s services. He emphasized that government offices must uphold integrity and deliver honest, efficient, and respectful service to the people.

This incident has raised concerns about transparency and accountability within the LTO, as the agency plays a vital role in managing transportation-related transactions nationwide. The LTO’s duty is not only to issue licenses and register vehicles but also to ensure that its offices follow the law and operate free from corruption.

The LTO also ensures that all drivers and vehicles in the country comply with national transportation standards and regulations.
