Gretchen Ho Shares Painful Experience of Discrimination in Norway
GRETCHEN HO — The TV5 host and anchor shared a troubling story about one of her family members in Oslo, Norway, revealing how corruption in the Philippines has started to affect ordinary Filipinos—even those living or traveling abroad.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 6, 2025, Gretchen said that her relative was refused service at a foreign exchange counter at Oslo Airport. According to her, the lady at the counter told them, “You came from the Philippines? We cannot exchange your dollars because of the corruption and money laundering in the Philippines.” Shocked and embarrassed, her family member—who only wanted to exchange 300 US dollars—was told to find another money changer outside the airport.
Gretchen expressed her sadness and frustration, saying that the country’s poor image caused by corruption is now being felt even by innocent Filipinos abroad. Her post quickly went viral, with many people expressing anger and disappointment over what happened. She ended her message with a question that struck many readers: “What are we going to do about this, Pilipinas?”

Her story showed how corruption has serious consequences, not only within the country but also in how the world views Filipinos. What should have been a simple task during travel turned into a painful reminder that the wrongful actions of a few powerful individuals can bring shame to an entire nation.

Among those who reacted to Gretchen’s post was singer and comedian Ogie Alcasid, who said he was “angry” after reading her story. He agreed with Gretchen, saying it was painful to see honest Filipinos being treated unfairly because of the corrupt officials who have damaged the country’s reputation.

Ogie has long been outspoken against corruption. He was among the artists who joined the massive protest rally against corrupt officials on September 21, 2025, showing solidarity with ordinary Filipinos who continue to call for accountability and change.
