Senate Pres. Tito Sotto Speaks on Sen. Erwin Tulfo amid Blue Ribbon Committee Leadership Change
ERWIN TULFO – The Senator is now among the candidates for the chairmanship of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
Sen. Ping Lacson resigned from being the chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee amid the investigation led by the panel on the flood control mess in the Philippines. Lacson steered the investigation when it invited contractors, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, and other personalities who allegedly had a hand on the supposed flood control corruption.

However, according to Senate President Tito Sotto, Lacson might be ‘frustrated’ over the comments of their colleagues in the Senate regarding the flood probe. Following his resignation, Sotto revealed that five (5) senators are being considered for the Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship.

According to Senate Pres. Tito Sotto, the fiver (5) senators who are candidates for the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship are the following:
- Sen. Kiko Pangilinan
- Sen. JV Ejercito
- Sen. Risa Hontiveros
- Sen. Raffy Tulfo
- Sen. Pia Cayetano

Sen. Raffy Tulfo already declined to be the next Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman. According to the veteran broadcaster-turned-Senator, he wants to maintain his focus on his advocacies and the committees he chairs. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan also stressed that it will be an “unwise” move for him to accept the chairmanship as the fourth committee that he will chair.
Sen. JV Ejercito believes that another senator may be more capable to lead the committee. The statements of the three (3) senators left the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee leadership to either Sen. Pia Cayetano or Sen. Risa Hontiveros. Recently, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto revealed that Sen. Erwin Tulfo may also be the next chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

Under Lacson’s lead, Sen. Erwin Tulfo was the vice chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senate President claimed that Tulfo may take over the committee’s leadership if the five (5) senators previously cited will decline the position.
According to Senate Pres. Tito Sotto, Sen. Erwin Tulfo is a good choice for the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship. The Senator has yet to speak on the matter. Previously, Sen. Erwin Tulfo clarified his “bend the law” remarks during a Senate flood probe which earned him countless criticisms and bashing.
