Congressman Bong Suntay Says He Was Not Vaping During Session
BONG SUNTAY – The Quezon City Representative has firmly denied allegations that he was vaping during a House of Representatives session after a viral post by lawyer Atty. Jesus Falcis accused him of doing so.
The controversy began when Falcis shared a short video on X (formerly Twitter), allegedly showing Suntay puffing on a vape while Davao City Representative Isidro Ungab was speaking in defense of Vice President Sara Duterte’s office budget. In his post, Falcis questioned the act, writing: “Ang alam ko, bawal ang smoking sa House of Representatives under Section 98 of its Rules. Ang vaping ba, hindi din bawal?” He went on to remind the public that vaping is not harmless, stating that it still contains carcinogens and poses risks of secondhand smoke exposure.
The post quickly gained traction online, with many users expressing surprise and criticism, believing the congressman had indeed violated the House’s rules.

However, Congressman Suntay promptly issued an official clarification denying the claim. He explained that the object seen in the video was not a vape but a “Breatheasy” device, which he described as a natural and safe breathing exercise tool designed to help with calmness and proper breathing. “Wala itong kemikal, usok, o baterya, at hindi ito ginagamit bilang vape o paninigarilyo,” Suntay emphasized.

The congressman added that the misunderstanding might have come from the appearance of the device, which looks somewhat similar to a vape. He reiterated that he respects the House’s rules and would never bring or use any prohibited device during a session.
Suntay’s clarification aimed to clear his name amid growing online speculation and criticism. He maintained that his intention in using the device was purely for health and relaxation purposes, not for vaping.
