Protester Loses His Life After Being Stabbed During Mendiola Rally
A male protested loses his life after suffering a stab wound during a rally against corruption in Mendiola, Manila.
Last Sunday (September 21, 2025), the demonstration against corruption in Mendiola, Manila ended in tragedy when violence broke out, leaving one man dead and several others injured.
According to the Department of Health, an unidentified male protester was rushed to the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival. He reportedly suffered a stab wound, making him the lone fatality of the chaotic incident.
The protest quickly turned disorderly when a group of masked individuals began clashing with authorities. In the aftermath, at least 48 people were brought to the government hospital for treatment. The injured included both rally participants and members of the police force.
Among them were two police officers who sustained cuts and bruises. They were immediately treated and later discharged. Other protesters suffered more serious conditions such as head trauma, eye injuries, vein damage, foot wounds, and even a gunshot wound.
Four patients were cleared to go home after receiving medical care, while two remained confined for further observation. The rest, mostly protesters, were undergoing medical examinations before being turned over to police custody.
Health officials assured that none of them faced life-threatening conditions.
The Department of Health also emphasized that all patients involved in the incident are covered by the government’s zero-balance billing program, ensuring that their hospital care would not add financial burden to them or their families.
The death of the unidentified protester has cast a somber shadow over the demonstration. What began as an expression of public frustration ended with lives disrupted, injuries sustained, and one family left grieving.
For many, it became a reminder of how quickly a call for change can spiral into violence, leaving scars far beyond the streets of Mendiola.
