Press Officer of Malacañang Speaks on Chavit Singson’s Remarks vs. PH Gov’t, Marcos Jr.
Malacañang appealed to several agencies most especially to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to investigate the remarks of former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson.
The flood control mess in the Philippines has elicited mixed reactions from the Filipino people. Recently, thousands of Filipinos joined the Trillion Peso March which held protest actions in the different areas across the nation to show condemnation of corruption.

Based on the records of the Philippine National Police, at least 60,000 people joined the rallies and called for an end to corruption. The PNP said the anti-corruption protest actions for the Trillion Peso March was “generally peaceful” with a few isolated cases. However, ahead of the said protest actions, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson had a different suggestion.

Chavit Singson called on the students to skip their classes until all corrupt officials in the government have resigned. The said call is towards high school and college students and it earned different reactions from the netizens online. Some members of the online community even accused Singson himself of alleged corruption.
Furthermore, Chavit Singson also claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is allegedly part of the country’s problem with flood control corruption. He stressed that the President signing the 2025 national budget made him part of the problem.
Amid the flood control issue, Marcos Jr. ordered the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to investigate the infra projects funded by the government. According to him, he might join the street protests if he’s not president as the Filipinos have the right to be angry over what is happening in the country now.

Following the remarks of former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson, Malacañang called on the different agencies to investigate the former Governor’s statements. Based on a report on Inquirer, Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro made special mention to the Department of Justice, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Philippine National Police.
“We are appealing to the leadership, especially to [Interior] Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Natartez Jr., and of course to the DOJ, to closely examine the statements made by Mr. Chavit Singson,” the Malacañang press official said.

Based on the report, Castro stressed that Singson “enticed young people—especially high school and college students” which there are many minors to skip school. According to the Malacañang press officer, the statement of the former Ilocos Sur Governor should be investigated to determine if a sedition case can be filed against him.
Aside from his remarks to the students, during a press conference, Chavit Singson also claimed that he was the one who suggest to now-Pres. Bongbong Marcos to file a candidacy for president even if Marcos Jr.’s initial target was allegedly the vice presidency.
