Magalong Steps Down from Marcos Infrastructure Probe
BENJAMIN MAGALONG – The Baguio City Mayor has officially stepped down as special adviser to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), a body created by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to investigate alleged multi-billion peso anomalies in government infrastructure projects.
Magalong submitted his resignation on Friday, following Malacañang’s announcement that the President had instructed his legal team to review whether Magalong’s appointment was appropriate. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro explained that the review was intended to prevent any conflict of interest and to ensure that Magalong could focus on his responsibilities as mayor of Baguio City.
Castro noted that they had heard Mayor Magalong express how his work with the ICI had been taking up much of his time, limiting what he could dedicate to Baguio City. She said the President wants him to prioritize his duties as mayor, especially since he was only serving as a special adviser and not a full member of the commission.

In his resignation letter, Magalong voiced concerns about recent statements from Malacañang that, according to him, contradicted the original terms of his appointment. He explained that these developments had weakened his role and responsibilities within the commission.
Magalong pointed out that the Palace’s statements regarding his position went against the conditions of his appointment, which ultimately undermined the role and mandate given to him. He also expressed doubts about the commission’s independence, saying the situation had made it clear that staying in his role was no longer feasible.

Magalong emphasized that he has never neglected his duty to the people of Baguio and that their welfare remains his highest priority. He assured the public that he will continue to focus on their needs and concerns as part of his commitment to public service.
With his resignation taking effect immediately, Magalong said he will now devote his full attention to serving his constituents and ensuring that the interests of Baguio residents are always at the heart of his work.
