Kiko Barzaga Reveals Mom Warned Him Not to Fight Romualdez

Kiko Barzaga Defies Mom’s Advice, Pushes for Justice

KIKO BARZAGA – The Cavite 4th District Representative revealed that his mother, Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga, advised him not to go against House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Barzaga shared, “Naiintindihan ko ang sitwasyon ni Mayor Vico, sinabihan rin ako ni Mayor Jenny na wag kalabanin si Romualdez.” Despite his mother’s warning, Barzaga firmly stated that justice must prevail, saying, “But justice must be done.”

Barzaga has been openly critical of Romualdez after leaving their political party and stepping away from the House majority bloc. This came after he was allegedly implicated in a plot to remove Romualdez as House Speaker.

According to Barzaga, he was informed that Deputy Speaker Puno, chairman of the National Unity Party, accused him of spearheading a signature campaign to oust Romualdez. Barzaga strongly denied the allegation, calling it completely false.

He clarified that his decision to leave the party and the majority was not part of any conspiracy, but rather a move to freely express his views. Now, without party restrictions, he said he supports calls to investigate Romualdez, particularly over alleged irregularities involving flood control public funds. Barzaga admitted that in the past, he supported Romualdez only because his party required it.

Shortly after announcing his resignation, Barzaga criticized Romualdez’s leadership on social media, citing the worsening flooding in Dasmariñas City. He pointed out that for two decades, the city had not experienced severe flooding — until Romualdez became the district caretaker following the death of Barzaga’s father, former Representative Pidi Barzaga.

“Dalawang dekadang hindi bumabaha sa Dasma, tapos ngayon binabaha na tayo pagkatapos maging district caretaker ni Martin Romualdez?,” he wrote. Barzaga stressed the importance of accountability, emphasizing that Romualdez must be investigated for possible involvement in questionable flood control projects.

“I supported Speaker Romualdez due to this, though now that I am free from my party’s constraints, I suggest that he must be investigated for any anomalies involving Flood Control Public Funds,” he said.
