Heart Evangelista: “Pikon naman din ako, ah!”
HEART EVANGELISTA – The actress and fashion icon addressed criticism from netizens questioning why she was not present at the Trillion Peso March protest held on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
The protest gathered thousands of people, including celebrities, who came together to speak out against widespread corruption in the Philippines, particularly the controversial flood control projects involving politicians, contractors, and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Speculation about Heart’s absence grew stronger because her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero, was linked to the scandal. It was revealed that Lawrence Lubiano, owner of Centerways Construction and Development—one of 15 companies named by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as being involved in the anomaly—was a campaign donor for Escudero. Chiz confirmed receiving a ₱30 million campaign donation from Lubiano but denied helping the contractor secure any government projects.

During her Instagram Live on September 23, Heart emotionally explained her side. She expressed frustration over accusations that she skipped the rally to protect her husband’s image. “People ask me about, ‘Oh, why weren’t you in the rally?’” Heart said. “Why wasn’t I in the rally? You think I don’t’ wanna be in the rally? You think I don’t have a voice? You think I’m not frustrated? You think hindi ako napipikon? Pikon naman din ako, ah! Bakit, hindi ako Pinoy?!”
Heart revealed that she chose not to attend because some individuals threatened to humiliate her publicly if she joined. “How cruel can you be?! What did I do? Huhubaran niyo ako sa rally.” she asked, visibly emotional. “I have nothing but to be a hardworking citizen, I have complied.”

She expressed disappointment at being used as a “casualty” and a political tool for entertainment, calling the attacks unfair and deeply hurtful.
Despite the controversy, Heart Evangelista reassured her followers that she remains committed to the Philippines and to standing with Filipinos in the fight against corruption. She expressed hope that the rally would lead to positive change and urged everyone to speak up and demand what is right.
