DSWD Showcases Hanging Footbridge Project of KALAHI-CIDSS

DSWD, KALAHI-CIDSS Deliver Footbridge for Iloilo Community

KALAHI-CIDSS – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) proudly showcased a newly built hanging footbridge in Barangay Kuyot, Janiuay, Iloilo, which has significantly improved the daily lives of local residents.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, September 18, the DSWD announced that hundreds of residents, including students, now benefit from the project. The hanging footbridge provides safer and easier access to schools, workplaces, and basic necessities. It also serves as a symbol of hope and a pathway toward a better future.

“Daan-daang estudyante at residente ng Brgy. Kuyot, Janiuay, Iloilo ang nakikinabang sa hanging footbridge na hindi lamang nagbibigay ng mas madaling access sa kanilang pangaraw-araw na pangangailangan, kundi nagsisilbi ring daan sa katuparan ng kanilang mga pangarap tungo sa mas maayos na kinabukasan,” the DSWD stated.

The project was made possible through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program, which focuses on building community infrastructure to fight poverty.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian personally visited the footbridge to ensure its safety and usefulness for the community. During his visit, he also inspected another bridge in a nearby barangay. The initiative is part of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide sustainable and meaningful infrastructure projects nationwide.

“Ang mga proyektong ito ng KALAHI-CIDSS ay nagtitiyak na ang mga itinayong imprastraktura ay lubos na nakatutulong sa pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay ng bawat Pilipino, alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr,” the department added.

Secretary Gatchalian was joined by other DSWD officials, including Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, KALAHI-CIDSS National Program Manager Director Bernadette Mapue-Joaquin, and OIC-Regional Director Joselito Estember of DSWD Field Office 6 in Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, KALAHI-CIDSS is a DSWD program that fights poverty by involving communities in planning and implementing projects such as roads, bridges, and water systems. It aims to improve access to basic services, promote transparency, and empower local communities, especially in poor and remote areas.
