Viral Photo of Arjo Atayde with Ex-DPWH Official Henry Alcantara at PBA Game
PBA GAME – A photo of former Bulacan district engineer Henry Alcantara with actor and public servant Congressman Arjo Atayde has recently gone viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions among netizens.
The images were taken during Game 7 of the semifinal match between Ginebra and San Miguel for the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on July 9, 2025. In the photos, Alcantara is seen seated beside actor Zanjoe Marudo, who is Arjo’s brother-in-law through his marriage to Ria Atayde. Actor Daniel Padilla was also present, seated next to Arjo.
The group appeared to be enjoying the intense basketball game, smiling and cheering from the stands. However, what seemed like a casual night out quickly turned controversial online. Some netizens immediately connected the photo to ongoing corruption allegations involving Alcantara, while others defended Arjo and Zanjoe, arguing that a single photo does not prove any wrongdoing.
Alcantara is one of the former DPWH officials accused of being involved in irregular flood control projects in Bulacan. He has been alleged to have worked with certain politicians and government contractors in these questionable deals. This fueled further speculation when he was seen publicly with Arjo, who has also been accused by contractor couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya of receiving kickbacks from government projects — a claim that Arjo has strongly denied.
As of now, both Arjo and Zanjoe have not issued any statement regarding the circulating photos. The Atayde family has been facing intense public scrutiny over these allegations. Previously, Arjo’s wife, actress Maine Mendoza, spoke out on social media to defend her husband.
In her statement, Maine emphasized that they are already consulting with their lawyers to take legal action against those spreading false accusations. She urged the public not to rush to judgment, stressing that Arjo has nothing to hide and is determined to prove his innocence.
