Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on OVP Proposed Budget for 2026

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President expressed her expectation that the proposed P903-million OVP budget for 2026 will allegedly be reduced.

Previously, during the 2025 Pasidungog event of the Office of the Vice President, Duterte claimed that the OVP will a P733-million budget for 2026. The said amount does not go far from the 2025 budget granted to her office which suffered a P1.3 billion cut from their proposed P2 billion budget.

Then, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that her office did not opt to seek a higher budget for 2026 as she does not expect it to be approved considering that she is not an ally of the Marcos administration. Prior to the start of the budget deliberations, it was confirmed that the OVP seeks a P903-million budget for next year.

Based on a report on GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she expects that the P903-million proposed budget of the OVP for 2026 will allegedly be reduced when the General Appropriations Act is passed. According to her, the administration is still the same.

“Hindi naman nagbago ang administration eh. ‘Yan pa rin ang Pangulo natin, ‘yan pa rin ang Speaker of the House of Representatives natin. So wala na tayong ma-expect na ibibigay para sa Office of the Vice President,” Duterte said.

According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the proposed budget approved by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) was the same budget proposal that they submitted for the National Expenditure Program or NEP. However, based on the report, the Vice President admitted that she expects that her office’s proposed budget will allegedly be reduced when it reaches the House of Representatives.

The rift between the Vice President and Pres. Bongbong Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez is no secret to the Filipino people. Amid the issues, presidential sister Imee Marcos sided with the Duterte family but claimed that there is “no family feud” between her and the President, First Lady Liza Marcos, and her cousin, Speaker Martin Romualdez.

However, shortly after her claim, Sen. Imee Marcos called on the House members to oust Speaker Martin Romualdez instead of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

With regards to the budget talks, during his 4th State of the Nation Address, Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed that he will not approve budget proposals that are not in line with the plans of the government. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero reacted to it saying the Congress still has the “power of the purse”. Afterwards, Malacañang called on the Congress not to abuse the “power of the purse”.
