Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on PH Education at Event in Kuwait
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the Philippine education allegedly lags behind when it comes to modernization.
The Office of the Vice President or OVP recently confirmed that Vice Pres. Duterte flew to Kuwait. According to Duterte’s office, her trip is authorized and remains aligned with her responsibilities. Furthermore, the office of Duterte stressed that the Vice President is not using public funds in her travels abroad.

During her stay in Kuwait, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte attended the Hakbang ng Maisug event held at Safir Hotel, Fintas, Kuwait. The Vice President gave a speech before the Filipino community who attended the event and mentioned about the education in the Philippines.

Based on a report on PhilStar, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who has also served as the secretary of the Department of Education claimed that the Philippines allegedly lags behind when it comes to education. According to her, it allegedly takes a long time for the country to catch up with the other nations when it comes to modernization.
“In other countries, they are so modern. As for us, we are still in paper and pencil,” the Vice President said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte further compared the Philippine education with those in other countries. According to her, in other countries, the students are already learning about robotics and coding.
“At age three and four, they already know how to read. While in our country, there are high school students who still do not know how to read,” Duterte said.

Duterte was the DepEd Secretary from June 30, 2022 to July 19, 2024. Based on the report, the Vice President claimed there are still a lot that can be done to improve the education in the country.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is criticized over her frequent travels abroad but she recently claimed that the Filipino communities in other countries are “frustrated” already over what is happening in the Philippines. Malacañang reacted to her claim saying that her travels are not the solution if the country has a problem.
Previously, amid the ongoing rift between the Vice President and Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Malacañang also reacted to the result of a survey showing Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as the frontrunner if the 2028 elections will be held now.
