Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Compared PH Education w/ Those in Abroad
SARA DUTERTE – A lawmaker in the House of Representatives called the Vice President as the “worst DepEd Secretary Ever” after her criticisms towards the Philippine education.
Vice Pres. Duterte recently flew to Kuwait as confirmed by the OVP (Office of the Vice President). Amid the criticisms against her frequent overseas trips, Duterte’s office claimed that her trip to Kuwait is authorized and part of her mandate as vice president.
Furthermore, the OVP also said in its statement that Duterte does not use public funds in all her overseas travels. In Kuwait, the Vice President graced the Hakbang ng Maisug event not only with her presence but as well as a speech before the Filipino community there.
In her speech, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte lamented the PH education saying that we are stuck in “paper and pencil” while other countries have adopted modernization. According to her, in other nations, the students are already learning about robotics and coding.
The Vice President further cited an example to back her comparison between the education in the Philippines and in abroad. According to her, kids as young as three (3) to four (4) years old in other countries already know how to read but some high school students in the Philippines still do not know how to read.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who has served as the secretary of the Department of Education or DepEd for around two (2) years hooked a lot of attention with her remarks against the PH education. Recently, ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio slammed the Vice President.
Based on a report on Inquirer, ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio claimed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte allegedly failed to deliver even a small part of what was expected of her during her term as the Education Secretary. According to her, those people who did not do their jobs have no right to complain.
“How can she complain about our students lacking access to modern technology when she couldn’t even ensure they had basic textbooks and learning materials? How can she say that we lack technology when she was not able to give the basic needs of students?” Tinio raised.
According to the ACT Teachers party-list Representative, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte allegedly paid more attention to the Confidential Funds of DepEd instead of addressing the problems in education. Based on the report, he called the Vice President as “the worst DepEd secretary ever”.
Aside from comparing the PH education with those in other countries, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also lamented the allegedly “difficult process” in asking for government assistance in the Philippines.
