During Ongoing Senate Session, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta Pushes for Dismissal of Impeachment Complaint vs. Duterte
RODANTE MARCOLETA – The Duterte ally Senator moved to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
The Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as “unconstitutional” ahead of the opening of the 20th Congress. Previously, the Senate announced that it will tackle the matter on August 6 — which is today.
The senators have different takes on whether or not to push through with the impeachment trial of the Vice President. The high court declared Duterte’s impeachment complaint as “unconstitutional” saying it did not follow the one-year rule with regards to impeachments.
The House of Representatives and some complaints filed a motion for reconsideration on the decision of the Supreme Court over the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The House and some senators asked the upper chamber to await the decision of the high court on the motion for reconsideration filed.
Several senators have aired their side on the matter. Sen. Risa Hontiveros claimed that she will block all motions that would seek for the dismissal of the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to her, it is allegedly “premature” to decide on a motion to dismiss the case without the pieces of evidence being presented. According to her, she is ready for a debate in case it happens.
On the other side, Sen. Bato dela Rosa believes that there is no need for a debate saying that the Supreme Court is supreme. Meanwhile, he claimed that he will hear the appeal of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero to listen to the sides of the four (4) senators, Risa Hontiveros, Tito Sotto, Bam Aquino, and Kiko Pangilinan, who push for the trial to proceed.
Currently, the Senate session is ongoing and the senators discuss the Supreme Court ruling over the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a post on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta moved to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Sen. Rodante Marcoleta is one of the members of the Duterte bloc in the Senate. He cited the decision of the Supreme Court in his motion to dismiss the impeachment case against the Vice President. Currently, the debate is ongoing. More updates may be posted soon.
