Risa Hontiveros Dares Marcos Jr. To Show Own SALN amid “Lifestyle Check” Order among Public Officials

Sen. Risa Hontiveros Reacts To Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ “Lifestyle Check” Order

RISA HONTIVEROS – The Senate Deputy Minority Leader dared President Bongbong Marcos to show his own Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) amid his order for “lifestyle check” among the public officials.

In Bulacan province alone, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was left disappointed and angry by several government projects that were either not existing although they’re already fully-paid and marked completed or those structures made of “substandard” materials. The Department of Public Works and Highways or DPWH earned countless criticisms over the recent reports about the flood control projects in the different areas across the nation.

Ten (10) officials of the DPWH in Bulacan district were placed under “floating status” amid the flood control projects issue. Previously, in a press conference, Pres. Marcos revealed that the country has already spent P545-billion for the government flood control deals from July 2022 to May 2025.

The chamber already held its first Senate flood probe but many contractors skipped the hearing. The next Senate flood hearing is set on September 1. The chamber issued a subpoena on the following contractors and Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada already warned that he will seek for the arrest of the contractors who skip the Senate flood probe again with an “unacceptable reason.

Amid the issue on the flood control deals of the government, Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered a “lifestyle check” among all the government officials. According to Malacañang, the order will start in the DPWH and all the individuals involved in the anomalous flood control deals.

Several public officials expressed support on the order of Marcos Jr. for a “lifestyle check” among the public officials including Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros. However, according to the Senator, the President will be a good example of his order if he would show his own SALN.

“Kung nag-utos si Presidente ng lifestyle check, magandang halimbawa at pagkakakita rin ng pamumuno kung kasamang ibubunyag ang kanyang SALN,” Hontiveros said.

Based on a post, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros claimed that a “lifestyle check” among the government officials has already happened before. She stressed that it can really be one of the ways to show good faith to the public most especially amid the heat of the anomalous flood control deals.

“Tingin ko walang problema sa batas sa ganong utos ni Presidente siguro ang unang tanong lang ay sino ang magsasagawa pero isa lang naman ito sa maraming pwedeng at dapat gawin alang-alang sa pagpapakita ng good faith sa ating publiko lalo’t ngayong panahon na ang tindi muli ng issue ng korapsyon lalo na dahil dito sa flood control projects,” she expressed.

According to Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros, on the lifestyle check starting with the DPWH officials, she stressed that the implementation should be objective. Based on the post, she said that the public will know who will pass and who will fail the assessment.

“Tingnan natin kung sino ang papasa o kung sino ang lalagpak diyan,” the Senate Deputy Minority Leader said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte agrees with the “lifestyle check” order of Marcos Jr. among the government officials but she has additional suggestions.
