Marcos Surprised by GSIS Investment Loss
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was surprised to hear reports that the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) allegedly lost money from its investment in DigiPlus Interactive Corp. He admitted that he did not know about the issue, especially since it comes at a time when there are strong calls to act on the growing problem of online gambling addiction among Filipinos.
The President made it clear that the reported GSIS losses are not connected to the government’s decision on whether to quickly close down online gambling operations. He explained that such decisions should not be rushed and must take many things into account. “No, no, I didn’t even know about that. Hindi ko alam na may ganoon ang GSIS,” the president said.
Although he did not say what specific actions he would take about the GSIS loss, Marcos said the government is studying all sides of the problem, especially regarding illegal gambling. He pointed out that the issue is not simple and needs advice from different groups before making a decision.

Marcos said banning online gambling right away is not as easy as it sounds. He stressed that it is important to listen to everyone involved before making a choice that could have big effects. To do this, he plans to call a meeting in the coming days with different sectors to get their opinions and suggestions.
He added that the main question now is what the government should do next. If banning online gambling is not the chosen option, he wants to look at other ways to solve the problem effectively. Marcos hopes that the ideas from these upcoming talks will help the government find a fair and effective solution.

“‘Yun ang question ngayon. Ano ‘yung gagawin natin? Kung hindi i-ban, ano ang gagawin natin? That’s what I’m hoping all of these different sectors of society will help lead us to a good answer,” he added.
