Imee Marcos on Sara Duterte’s Archived Impeachment: “It’s dead but it’s not really buried”

Sen. Imee Marcos Claims VP Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Case May Be Revived if SC Changes Ruling

IMEE MARCOS – The Presidential Sister, a close ally of Vice President Sara Duterte, claimed that the impeachment case is ‘dead but not buried’.

Several senators cited the ruling of the Supreme Court in the impeachment articles against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as they made their vote on a motion to archive the case. The high court declared the impeachment complaint against Duterte as “unconstitutional” even before the 20th Congress opened.

After the 4th State of the Nation Address or SONA of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the Senate decided to discuss the Supreme Court ruling on Duterte’s impeachment on August 6. Shortly after the discussion started, Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Rodante Marcoleta moved to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. However, Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto attempted to table his motion.

Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto cited the presence of the Motion for Reconsideration that some of the complainants and the House of Representatives have filed before the Supreme Court. However, only five (5) senators voted on his motion to table Marcoleta’s motion.

The proceedings moved to the changing of the motion of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman from dismissing the impeachment case to archiving it — to which he agreed. The senators were given their chance to speak on their vote to the motion.

Following the decision of the Senate, House Speaker Martin Romualdez called the archiving of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment case allegedly a “rushed burial”. According to him, it was allegedly not the filing of the complaint that was rushed but it’s burial.

Recently, the cousin of the House Speaker, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos, seemingly reacted to the claim of Speaker Martin Romualdez. She claimed that the impeachment case is allegedly dead but it is not buried and can be retrieved.

“It’s dead but it’s not really buried. In effect, because it is in the archive…pwede namang hugutin pa uli kung magbago ang Korte Suprema,” she said.

Sen. Imee Marcos further claimed that they are just following the decision of the Supreme Court. Based on a report on PhilStar, amid the archiving of the impeachment case against her, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she supposedly wants all evidence to be presented in the public.

Amid the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Sen. Imee Marcos proposed to the House members to oust Speaker Martin Romualdez instead.
